Off the GridThe 2012 Discovery Art theme was cross-pollination: sharing art. sharing ideas. It was meant to make you think about how your actions and ideas impact your community, the world, and the people around you each day; and how every one of us is individually involved in the sustainability of our environment. For this project, local artists of all ages created one part of a giant photograph. When everyone’s artwork was joined together, it made up one Big Picture.
To participate in the Grid project, you had to sign up to get one of the very special GRID KITS. There were only 132 all together. Each participant recreate a unique section of the whole picture using any type of material that they desired, like watercolor paint, oil pastel, colored pencil, cut up pages from magazines, colored sand or dirt, painted leaves, beeswax, flower petals, felted wool, bas relief, quilted fabric, collaged photographs, tiny spirals, gauche paint, ink, recycled greeting cards, and more!
